Getting better sleep is one of the most under-appreciated ways to improve your life. Some of us love to sleep, some of us dread it, but do any of us take the time to think about how we can change our sleeping habits for the better?
Find the right amount of time.
Getting high quality sleep means sleeping for just the right amount of time. Sleeping too much or too little can leave you feeling tired or grumpy for the rest of the day. Our brains just don’t function well unless they’re well rested.
Reflect & Evaluate
So if you’re not getting enough sleep, think about what’s keeping you from going to sleep earlier or waking up later. If you’re losing track of time and its way past your bedtime, think about setting an alarm to remind you. If you’re a heavier procrastinator like me, and you’re up late finishing homework, think about starting your homework earlier.
Getting your best sleep
Maybe you get to bed on time, but you just have trouble getting to sleep? Try removing all distractions and counting sheep. You might just be too energetic to sleep, in which case regular exercise can help you burn that energy and leave you too exhausted to stay awake.
The hardest part about getting into the habit of finding a healthier, more fulfilling way to sleep is making the change. The human body is remarkably adaptable, and once you get into a routine you’ll notice that you have no problem getting to sleep or waking up on time.
