Call me a nerd but one of the most satisfying feelings in the world is crossing off something from one of my many different to-do lists. People often underestimate the power of a to-do list. They think that writing something down is the same remembering it off the top of their head. However, the feeling of physically crossing off a task that you’ve willed yourself to complete can be pretty powerful.
Whenever I am very stressed or loaded with an immense amount of work, I try to make sure I have lists for everything ranging from chores (laundry, making my bed) to homework (work for each class). I try to narrow down my lists by making one every day. This makes the task less daunting. Instead of having to stress out about a huge list with everything you have to do for a week, break it down and focus on one day at a time so that it doesn’t seem as challenging. Writing things down helps me stay organized and on top of my life. I know exactly what I have to get done for a certain day and can plan my time accordingly. I also have multiple versions of my lists with one in my phone so I have it on me at all times, one on my calendar, and another in my planner.
Try it next time you seem to have a really busy week. Break it down day by day and cross off things you have completed one at a time. It will motivate you to keep going and help you plan your time accordingly.
