Cooking for Stress Relief
Every once in a while school work piles up, then stress follows. Therefore you have to make sure that you find a stress relief. Some people find working out helpful, or maybe spending time doing something you enjoy. For me, cooking has become my latest hobby to get my mind off work! So lets say you’ve written a paper thats due the next day. Its on your mind and you need to be able to edit it, but you are just too wrapped up in it. What do you do? You find a stress relief. It will momentarily take your mind off the task at hand and allow you to revisit it with a clear mind and a new perspective.
Reasons cooking is the perfect stress relief:
- You have to completely focus on one particular task, intensively for a short period of time. Therefore it functions as a a type of meditation that allows you to completely take your mind off anything that might be stressing you out, even for just a bit.
- When you cook something that turns out delicious, you can even try it as you go. You can just taste it getting better and better! This is important for stress relief because it gives you immediate gratification. Immediate gratification is a wonderful stress relief because, unlike most of the tasks that cause you stress, you see the results of hard work after a very short period of time.
- It exercises your creativity! When you cook, you can imagine what could make the recipe better and have more say in how you like your own food. Exercising your creativity is important since its keeps your mind working while you’re away from studying. Unlike naps, it keeps you on your toes and ready to jump back into your work once you’re done.
